ACL Implant

Background

Keyhole surgery with Arthroscopy is a great revolution of the time which reduce the cut and pain for patient and time for the doctor. Wide range of implants and equipment to help treat soft tissue conditions in the shoulders and the knees such as anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, posterior cruciate ligament injuries, other ligament repair and reconstruction, and meniscal repair.

Project Scope

We designed and developed the product for a Global Medtech Company focused on products used in surgical, post-surgical, and chronic care, Including Detailed Engineering, Development of Prototypes, Design Validation, CAE, Manufacturing Drawings Release, and Development of Parts.

Highlights

We have designed a variable pitch implant screw for an Anterior Cruciate ligament(ACL) treatment. Which is the first-ever design and developed in India. And this implant provides better tightening torque and pull strength than the others products. These implants are made up of both titanium metal and biodegradable poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) material.

To ensure the functionality of these implants we have done FE analysis by applying Torque & Pull on the screws. For this analysis, We have considered to Screw Geometry and Density of biodegradable poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) material implant as of 1430 Kg/m³, Young’s Modulus 2800 N/mm², and Yield Strength 60 MPa with 9.5mm dia and 30mm length.

Loading Condition for Torque

552 N-mm tightening torque applied on the screw for this torque Maximum Shear Stress observed is 60.2 MPa is almost similar to other competitive products.

Loading Conditions for Pull

641 N pull applied on the screw Maximum Shear Stress observed is 59.4 MPa is almost similar to other competitive products.
